About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts & Business Services Manager to join a well-established and growing accountancy practice in Edinburgh.

This is a client-facing role offering the opportunity to work with a varied portfolio of businesses, providing a combination of accounts, tax, advisory and business services. You will take ownership of client relationships, oversee the delivery of high-quality work and support the development of more junior members of the team.

The role would suit a qualified accountant who enjoys working closely with clients and is looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and progressive practice environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients and develop strong, long-term relationships.
  • Review and agree draft budgets and monitor performance against agreed budgets.
  • Delegate, supervise and review work completed by senior and junior team members.
  • Review draft financial statements and corporation tax computations.
  • Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and obtain relevant information.
  • Assist with a range of advisory and business services assignments.
  • Monitor work in progress across the client portfolio and communicate potential issues or write-offs in a timely manner.
  • Undertake key areas of audit work where required and supervise larger audit assignments.
  • Monitor team performance, budgets and deadlines.
  • Monitor debtor balances and support effective cash collection.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce clients to relevant specialist services across the wider practice.
  • Ensure statutory filing deadlines are met, including corporation tax and Companies House requirements.
  • Act as a technical point of contact and provide support and guidance to other members of the team.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and technical specialists to resolve client and technical issues.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, accounting standards and industry developments.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the client portfolio and wider team.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification.
  • Strong experience within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing year-end financial statements.
  • Experience with management accounts and VAT returns.
  • Good understanding of corporation tax and general accounting principles.
  • Previous experience supervising and developing junior team members.
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to deadlines.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting software such as Xero would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • A proactive, commercially aware and client-focused approach.
