About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bookkeeper with VAT experience to join a growing accountancy practice in Edinburgh.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with clients, has strong bookkeeping and VAT knowledge, and is confident using cloud-based accounting technology.

You will manage bookkeeping and VAT responsibilities across a varied client portfolio while also having the opportunity to contribute ideas, improve processes and support the continued development of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and within relevant deadlines.
• Maintain and organise client records using Xero and integrated applications such as Dext.
• Carry out quality control checks on bookkeeping and VAT work.
• Review VAT coding and bookkeeping allocations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Develop an understanding of VAT requirements across different industries.
• Respond to client queries and follow up on outstanding information.
• Act as a key point of contact for a number of clients.
• Assist with setting up Xero for new clients.
• Support the delivery of Xero training to clients.
• Use checklists and quality control processes to maintain high standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing systems and processes.
• Contribute ideas and support the continued development of the business.

About You

The ideal candidate will be:

• Experienced in a bookkeeping or similar accounts role.
• Confident preparing VAT returns and understanding VAT coding.
• Experienced using Xero; knowledge of FreeAgent and QuickBooks would be advantageous.
• Comfortable working with cloud-based accounting systems and technology.
• Friendly, approachable and confident when dealing with clients.
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
• A strong communicator with excellent attention to detail.
• Proactive and enthusiastic in their approach.
• Comfortable suggesting improvements to systems and processes.
• Able to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
• Keen to develop their skills and take ownership of their work.
