About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Personal Tax Assistant to join a well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice in Edinburgh.

This role would suit someone with at least one year of experience within an accountancy practice who is looking to develop their career within personal tax and take responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients.

You will receive ongoing support and development while gaining exposure to a broad range of personal and partnership tax matters. The role offers a clear opportunity to build your technical knowledge, strengthen client relationships and progress your career within practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day tax compliance requirements for a portfolio of clients.
  • Prepare and submit Self Assessment and Partnership Tax Returns and associated tax computations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records.
  • Deal with HMRC correspondence, queries and tax enquiries.
  • Support Managers and Partners with ad hoc tax queries and client requirements.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain relevant information and resolve queries.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across other departments.
  • Ensure all client and statutory deadlines are met.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Complete timesheets, billing information and other administrative requirements promptly.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 1 year’s experience working within an accountancy practice.
  • Previous experience in personal tax or a strong interest in developing a career in tax.
  • Experience preparing or assisting with Self Assessment and/or Partnership Tax Returns.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise a varied workload.
  • A proactive and positive attitude.
  • The confidence to communicate with clients and HMRC.
  • A willingness to learn and develop technically.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.

AAT or CTA study support will be available for the right candidate.
