About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Accountant to join an established and growing independent accountancy practice in Fife.
This is a varied, client-facing role offering exposure across accounts, tax, VAT, management accounts and business advisory work. The successful candidate will work closely with a diverse portfolio of clients, taking responsibility for delivering high-quality accounting and tax services while building strong, long-term relationships.
The role would suit a qualified accountant who enjoys working in a smaller practice environment, is comfortable working independently and is looking for genuine long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
- Prepare management accounts and provide clients with meaningful financial information.
- Prepare financial projections, forecasts and financial analysis.
- Maintain and review accurate accounting records.
- Review bookkeeping and provide guidance where required.
- Work with a range of accounting software, including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage.
- Assist clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
- Prepare and review VAT returns and provide support with wider VAT compliance.
- Consider clients’ wider business tax position and identify relevant tax planning opportunities.
- Prepare and review personal tax returns.
- Liaise directly with clients and provide practical accounting and tax advice.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
- Manage deadlines across a varied portfolio of clients.
- Provide support, guidance and coaching to trainees and more junior members of the team.
- Contribute to the continued development of the practice and its client offering.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A recognised professional accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
- Strong experience within an accountancy practice or similar client-focused environment.
- Good technical knowledge across accounts and tax compliance.
- Experience preparing statutory accounts for a range of business structures.
- Experience with management accounts and financial analysis.
- Good understanding of VAT and MTD requirements.
- Experience preparing and reviewing personal tax returns.
- Strong IT skills and experience with cloud-based accounting software, particularly Xero, QuickBooks and/or Sage.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A client-focused and commercially minded approach.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small team while also managing your own workload independently.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to multiple deadlines.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring or coaching trainees would be advantageous.
