About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a General Practice Accounts Supervisor to join a growing and well-established accountancy practice in Edinburgh.
This role would suit a nearly or newly qualified accountant with strong practice experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility across client management, accounts preparation and team supervision.
You will manage a small portfolio of SME clients while also reviewing work, supporting junior team members and providing training and development to students. The role offers excellent scope to develop your technical and leadership skills within a supportive practice environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small portfolio of SME clients across a range of sectors.
- Build and maintain regular client contact and provide a proactive, client-focused service.
- Prepare accounts for:
- Limited companies
- LLPs
- Partnerships
- Sole traders
- Prepare management accounts.
- Prepare personal and corporation tax computations.
- Review work completed by colleagues and students.
- Provide constructive feedback and support the development of junior team members.
- Train and supervise students within the team.
- Assist Assistant Managers with ad hoc client assignments and projects.
- Communicate directly with clients and HMRC.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting standards and personal and corporation tax.
- Manage your own workload and ensure deadlines and budgets are achieved.
- Contribute to delivering a high-quality service across the wider practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Nearly or newly qualified status with ACCA, ICAS, ICAEW or equivalent.
- At least 3 years’ experience within an accountancy practice.
- Strong experience preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
- Good knowledge of FRS 102 and FRS 102 Section 1A.
- Experience preparing management accounts.
- Knowledge of personal and corporation tax computations.
- Previous experience reviewing work or supporting junior colleagues would be advantageous.
- A genuine interest in developing your leadership and supervisory skills.
- Strong client-facing and relationship management abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to manage your own workload and work independently.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines and budgets.
- Excellent IT skills and the ability to learn and retain knowledge of accounting software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive and client-focused approach.
