The Opportunity

A growing professional services firm is looking to appoint an Audit Senior to join its External Audit team in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified audit professional looking to take ownership of a varied portfolio and develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking practice.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of clients across corporate, charity, education, housing associations and SME/owner-managed businesses. You will lead audits from planning through to completion, build strong client relationships and supervise junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Act as the senior member of the fieldwork team, undertaking complex and technical audit work.
  • Supervise and review the work of junior team members.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to students and junior staff.
  • Prepare statutory accounts from trial balance, including audit adjustments and financial statement disclosures.
  • Draft management letters, highlighting recommendations around systems, controls and governance.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients and build strong professional relationships.
  • Attend client meetings, including Audit Committee and Board meetings where required.
  • Ensure audit work complies with relevant auditing standards, regulations and internal methodologies.
  • Support managers and partners with proposals, business development and other client opportunities.
  • Assist with the onboarding and development of graduate trainees.
  • Take ownership of your workload and ensure assignments are delivered efficiently and within deadlines.
  • Limited overnight travel may occasionally be required.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • CA or ACCA qualification, with all professional examinations and required practical experience completed.
  • Approximately 4–6 years’ audit experience, including at least one year post-qualification.
  • Experience working on medium to large audit engagements.
  • Previous experience within a small to medium-sized accountancy practice.
  • Strong experience supervising and reviewing junior staff.
  • Good technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards, including relevant ISAs and FRSs.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.

Desirable Experience

  • Charity audit and accounts preparation.
  • Further education or wider public sector audit.
  • Full driving licence.
