Tax Senior Associate

Location: Edinburgh
Working Pattern: Hybrid

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional looking to develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking practice, working with a varied portfolio of clients including complex personal tax cases and high-net-worth individuals.

You will take responsibility for managing your own portfolio, providing high-quality compliance and advisory support, while also assisting with the development of junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, including complex cases and HNWIs.
  • Prepare and submit personal, trust and partnership tax returns accurately and within deadlines.
  • Complete all relevant tax return and compliance control procedures.
  • Review and update client PAYE codes and undertake National Insurance calculations.
  • Deal confidently with client and HMRC correspondence.
  • Undertake more complex Capital Gains Tax calculations.
  • Assist with income tax planning and other tax advisory work.
  • Prepare P11D and P11D(b) forms.
  • Assist the Tax Manager with the supervision, training and development of junior team members.
  • Provide clear guidance and instructions to junior staff and monitor their progress.
  • Assist with portfolio management, including billing and maintaining accurate progress reports.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development and training records.
  • Manage your workload effectively, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and maintain high standards of client service.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider firm.

About You

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, commercially minded and keen to continue developing their tax career. You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CTA qualification, or be actively studying towards one of these qualifications.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of personal taxation and a willingness to continue developing your technical expertise.
  • Previous experience managing a portfolio of personal tax clients.
  • Experience with more complex tax matters, including CGT, trusts and partnerships, would be advantageous.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word, alongside experience using relevant tax and accounts software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both clients and colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • The ability to research technical issues, apply professional judgement and communicate findings clearly.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise your own workload.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to your work.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • An interest in business and commerce, with a strong aptitude for figures.
  • A commitment to continued professional development and, where applicable, further professional qualifications.
