An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join a growing accountancy practice. This role would suit someone with previous experience in an accounts position who is keen to broaden their knowledge, take on additional responsibility and progress their career within professional practice.

You will work alongside an experienced team, supporting a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from sole traders and partnerships to established limited companies. The role offers excellent exposure to different aspects of accountancy, providing the opportunity to further develop your technical skills and build on your existing experience.

The Role

Working closely with the wider accounts team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the preparation of year-end accounts for a varied client portfolio.
  • Producing VAT returns and ensuring submissions are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Assisting with the preparation of personal and corporation tax returns.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting clients with day-to-day accounting queries.
  • Liaising with colleagues and clients to obtain relevant financial information.
  • Providing general administrative and accounts support to ensure the smooth running of the department.

About You

We are keen to hear from individuals who have gained practical accounts experience and are looking to take the next step in their career.

Ideally, you will have worked within an accountancy practice and have an understanding of general practice services. Applications will also be welcomed from candidates who have developed relevant experience within an in-house finance team.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance-related position.
  • A sound understanding of bookkeeping, accounts preparation and VAT.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
  • The ability to organise your workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with colleagues and clients.

What We’re Looking For

This opportunity would suit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who enjoys working as part of a team but is equally comfortable managing their own workload.

You will be approachable, reliable and keen to learn, with the confidence to ask questions, take ownership of tasks and work to deadlines. A willingness to develop your technical knowledge and contribute positively to the wider team is essential.

Previous experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage 50 or IRIS would be beneficial, although training can be provided.
