About the Employer: Our client, a leading independent accountancy practice based in the heart of Edinburgh, is seeking a talented and motivated Accounts Assistant to join their team. The Role: This is a fantastic opportunity for an Accounts Assistant to gain broad experience across a range of accounting functions. You will work closely with an experienced accountant, providing crucial support on various client accounts. After the initial training period, you’ll have the flexibility to work remotely, with only one day a week required in the Edinburgh office—although more days can be arranged to suit your preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing personal tax returns.
  • Undertake bookkeeping duties for a variety of SME clients.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Assist with payroll processing and management.
  • Contribute to the preparation of corporation tax returns.
  • Assist in the production of management accounts.
  • Take on ad-hoc project work as required.

Candidate Profile: Our client is looking for someone with the right potential and enthusiasm to grow in this role. While specific experience in each of the above areas is not essential, you must have some experience in a commercial environment and a strong desire to develop your skills.

Key Requirements:

  • Essential: Some experience in a commercial or professional environment.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proactive with a strong desire to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail and good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) is beneficial but not required.
